Ovei Pod

Looks like a giant shinny egg but don’t worry, scientist haven’t created 50ft chickens to solve world hunger it is just an Ovei Pod. Launched at CEDIA, the pod provides an enclosed space where you can get away from it all and watch your favourite South Park episode or enjoy a bit of game play on your PS3 or Xbox. Read on to find out more.

This all seems nice, the sound quality should be superior to conventional media centers and there will be no glare from that pesky sun shining on the screen, but what are the costs? Could this be another nail in the coffin of society? There are already many debates going around about technology destroying society, how the youth of today can’t speak or write proper like what we use to, and how people are not talking with friends and family as much.

At least with conventional media centers you general can share the experience and even if you don’t talk much you might grunt now and then, but with the Ovei Pod you are shut off from everyone and everything. No more sharing a bowl of popcorn with your loved ones, or even stealing a quick kiss from your partner. Nope, because you would have to open the hatch to your egg first then knock on their egg to request the kiss, kind of takes the passion out of the moment.

Having said all that we don’t have much to worry about just yet, at £50,000 a pod I don’t think we will be seeing these in family homes for a little while. Designed by Lee McCormack and engineered by McLaren Applied Technologies these hand-crafted pods are definitely for the rich, but personally even if I had the money I wouldn’t want to shut myself in ones of these.
