Sony’s OLED TVs to double in size
Sony’s current largest OLED TV is only 11”, which is easy to move around but not really what you want in a home entertainment system, especially when it will set you back over a £1000. How does 27″ sound though? Still not huge but it is a step in the right direction. Stan Glasgow (COO of Sony) said that Sony is “awfully close” to selling a 27″ OLED TV. But like so many businesses and people now a days, Sony are feeling the pinch of increased costs due to higher oil prices, so when he says “awfully close” there is no real knowing when that might be.
There is the promise that once the 27″ version is released it will be followed by a 40″ version but this could be a very long time in the waiting and because Sony don’t have a way to automate the production of these TVs it doesn’t look like they will be coming down in price in the near future either. Until Sony can automate the production and reduce the amount of labour required to create each TV there just won’t be the demand for OLED TVs because they are too expensive.
